Tharisa Minerals received its first wheeled renewable electricity from Etana Energy in September 2026, Tharisa announced on 20 October 2026. The initial supply comes from an early tranche of wind energy generated in Mpumalanga.

Initial supply and planned additions

Tharisa expects the initial delivery to meet approximately 10% of the mine’s current monthly electricity demand. The percentage is an estimate of the supply’s contribution, rather than a reported reduction in electricity costs or emissions.

The delivery follows a long-term power purchase agreement with Etana Energy signed in July 2024. Tharisa expects wheeled solar electricity to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with further wheeled wind supply later that year.

Commercial and emissions objectives

Tharisa says the renewable supply is intended to reduce energy costs and Scope 2 emissions. It also links the delivery to its target of reducing emissions by 30% by 2030. The reported cost and emissions benefits are objectives, not measured results from the initial delivery.
