Sasol published business performance metrics on 21 October 2026 for the three months ended 30 September 2026. The update showed differing trends across its operations: Southern African Mining recorded its highest quarterly production in six years, while production at Secunda Operations was lower following a planned phase shutdown.
Production trends diverged
The mining result and the lower output at Secunda are distinct parts of the quarterly picture. The planned phase shutdown provides context for Secunda’s production decline; the six-year high applies to Southern African Mining, not to Sasol’s operations as a whole.
Natref production was lower than in the prior quarter following planned and unplanned shutdowns. Its Residual Crude Desulphuriser remained offline after a contained process-safety incident. Sasol said a restart was planned for the end of October 2026; the update did not report that it had restarted.
Liquid-fuels sales rose
Sasol said liquid-fuels sales volumes increased during the quarter, mainly reflecting changes in customer buying behaviour and a planned inventory drawdown. Those factors are relevant when reading the sales result alongside the lower production reported at Secunda and Natref: the sales increase and the production declines describe different measures of quarterly performance.
