Vodacom announced on 6 October 2026 that it would invest more than R500 million in network infrastructure in the Western Cape during its current financial year. The plan combines radio access network upgrades with new 5G sites and work on power resilience.
Radio network upgrades
Approximately R380 million is allocated to radio access network modernisation. Vodacom plans to upgrade or replace more than 50 sites and add 700MHz 4G capacity at more than 50 sites. These are substantial parts of the announced infrastructure programme, although the figures do not establish how the work will affect customer service or commercial returns.
Deployment and resilience
The plan also includes new 5G sites, additional generators and battery modernisation. Together, the network and energy measures show how Vodacom is directing infrastructure spending toward both mobile capacity and the equipment used to keep sites operating.
Vodacom identifies Khayelitsha, Delft, Gugulethu, Langa, Mitchells Plain and Philippi among the communities targeted for deployment. For the telecommunications sector, the announced spending is a concrete commitment to network infrastructure in the province; the reported figures describe planned investment rather than measured coverage, reliability or financial outcomes.
