The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) reported industrial investment of more than R31 billion against a R10 billion target for the 2025/26 financial year. In its statement published on October 8, 2026, the department also reported local procurement and global exports above their respective targets.

Those results cover selected measures, rather than the department’s entire performance. Parliament’s Portfolio Committee said the dtic achieved 62% of its planned targets while spending 98% of its budget in 2025/26.

Investment, procurement and export results

The dtic reported R86 billion in local procurement against a R50 billion target. Alongside industrial investment of more than R31 billion against a R10 billion target, the procurement figure gives businesses two measures of reported activity to compare with the department’s stated goals.

For trade, the department reported global exports of R142 billion against a R120 billion target. It also reported continental exports of R146 billion. These are the export figures in the dtic’s statement; the supplied evidence does not provide a target for continental exports.

A wider performance measure

The Portfolio Committee’s assessment provides a broader measure alongside the dtic’s investment, procurement and export results. Its figures—62% of planned targets achieved and 98% of the budget spent—concern overall target delivery and expenditure, not the individual targets cited in the department’s statement.

For businesses tracking investment, sourcing and trade, the reported amounts show where the dtic recorded results above specific targets. The committee’s assessment is an important qualification: performance against those selected targets should not be read as performance against all of the department’s planned targets.
